Incorporated in 1983 as Community Care Network, CCN Managed Care, Inc., began when a coalition of businesses, labor organizations, physicians and hospitals in San Diego came together in a joint effort to control health care costs and promote quality care. Through a series of acquisitions and mergers, CCN Managed Care evolved in 1998 to become a national group health, workers' compensation and auto managed care company. CCN was acquired by First Health Group Corp. from Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) in 2001. HCA acquired CCN in 1997 through its acquisition of Value Health.
